For moms who wouldn't be caught anywhere near a bulky, primary colored diaper bag, there are alternatives -- designer diaper bags. You can find some at reasonable prices, but really -- how do you put a price on fashion? The bonus is that these stylish bags are also functional.
1. Luxe Leather by Fleurville
This bag is simple and sleek on the outside and functional on the inside. It's the most "purse-like" bag I've seen and it comes in black, aquamarine or pink leather. The leather is waterproofed, however, so don't worry about it getting ruined by spills or spit up. Everything that's inside (changing pad, wipes case, storage bag, insulated bottle holder) comes out so it can be used as a purse.
2. Maria by Mia Bossi
For the trendiest of all moms, Kate Spade is out and this Mia Bossi bag is in. It's made with Italian leather, polished hardware and designer canvas fabrics and comes in a variety of trendy colors from black cherry to exotic pink and when you're done using it as a diaper bag or if you're going out sans child, it makes a stylish purse.
3. Black Stripe Lexington by Reese Li Baby
This is a bag for moms who want all the fashion of a small bag, but have way more stuff to tote around. While it's a big bag, glamour wasn't sacrificed a bit. And neither was space (there are 12 pockets on this bag) with enough room for everything including baby's gear and yours. Laptops fit in here without a problem. The outside is weatherproof and laminated and it has straps that fit it securely to your stroller. It also comes with a changing pad and a special pocket for dirty / wet clothes and diapers. There are several patterns available with the Lexington. Black Stripe and Earth Stripe are my personal favorites, but Marine Tadpole is great for something a bit bolder and Leaf would make a nice bag to carry for the fall season.
4. Duo Glam in Olive by Skip Hop
If you loved the original Duo bag, you're going to love this one even more. It's prettier yet still just as durable with the same laminated canvas and dual pocket system that keeps your cell phone and other bits away from baby's wet stuff. Also like the old Duo, it fits securely on your stroller and converts right back to a shoulder bag without a lot of fuss. It's got plenty of pockets for you and your baby and comes with a matching changing pad.
5. Pink Chocolate by Fleurville
For the mom who loves delicate pink this bag is perfect. And while it may have delicate coloring, it's still tough and durable. It's got a spot for everything and a special place for dirty clothes. My favorite feature though is the non-slip grip on the strap so you won't be losing your bag everytime you bend over to pick up baby.
6. Messenger Bag by OiOi
This bag is perfect for the professional mom. It is classic messenger bag style with plenty of room for everything your baby needs while out and about. It's roomy enough for work items as well, in case you're heading to the coffee shop for a little work with baby in tow. OiOi makes the same basic bag but it comes in so many different fabrics, there's bound to be one to suit any mom's style. My personal favorite is the Avocado Circle print.
9. Azalea Baby Bag by Amy Michelle
This bag is elegant and black. It's got room for everything your baby needs while out and about. Bonus: It's got room for everything you need as well. There are two separate compartments for baby's stuff and yours so you won't be digging through a bottomless pit of diapers and pacifiers to get to your cell phone and keys.10. Dash by Skip Hop
The Dash comes in a multitude of colors and is a favorite of many trendy moms. Says Celebrity Baby Blog's Danielle Friedland:
- "I really love our Skip Hop Dash for our 17 month old daughter. It holds the essentials- sippy cup, Diapees and Wipees pouch, Anya's baby doll, her Ju-Ju-Be feed bag, plus has pockets that hold my digital camera, coupon holders, a side pocket that holds a water or baby bottle, and an interior pocket that is easily accessible that is just big enough to hold my keys, wallet and Blackberry but not big enough that they can get swallowed up and buried. The bag is sporty enough that my husband willingly carries it but not too sporty that I feel like I'm carrying a gym bag. I also like the stroller strap attachment."
